The Khan Kurra project began in 2012 as a musical ritual using electronic and acoustic sources, voice, ‘found sounds’ and modern technology. The result is a sound haunted by ancestral memories; dreams of a mythic past that may have never been.
Khan Kurra released World View EP on Fluorescent Records in 2012. Published without fanfare, the EP nevertheless gained critical attention and eventually made its way onto a year-end ‘Best Of’ list in Wire Magazine. Although varied in style, the EP ingratiated Khan Kurra to the global ‘deep’ dubstep community and led to a continuing collaboration with Dubtribu Records of Croydon, England.
From there, Khan Kurra has released many projects on small labels as well as independently: EPs, singles, collaborations and remixes, appearing on compilations and supplying a host of long-form mixes to various platforms worldwide. In 2019, Khan Kurra curated a series of mixes for New Zealand-based Audio Archaeology exploring influences from international traditional/folk music styles, showcasing the broadening range of his work.
